Punjab government is spending more than Rs 3 billion on different development schemes under Punjab Development Programme in province. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday.

Under programme special attention was being accorded on the construction of farm-to-market roads aimed at linking far-off areas with their nearest mandi towns and tehsil headquarters while health, water, sanitation facilities and provision of missing facilities in educational institutions in the province.

Besides, the government was also mobilising more than Rs 8.50 billion on the improvement of water supply and drainage system in rural and urban areas of the Punjab. Out of this allocation 57 per cent of the funds would be utilised in rural areas and 43 percent would be spent in urban areas. The step was being taken for providing hygienic drinking water facilities and implement modern sanitation system in rural and urban areas of the Punjab, sources added.
